City as Character:Y2K

"City as Character: Y2K" is an archival film documenting the events of the Year 2000 hysteria in the city of Seattle. This short uses footage and material from Seattle Municipal Archives, various news broadcast organizations, and The Seattle Times to relay the rising tension leading up to the event, including how Seattle City Light and state representatives prepared, and the immediate aftermath and how this situation connects to current day.

 

The process involved researching the story itself, browsing archival libraries for material to include, and editing the final cut in Premiere Pro. The editing style is inspired by videos created by Michael Stevens.
